A Flower Masterclass- a visit to our cutting garden and vase arranging at the studio

  • The Flower Appreciation Society BE Studios, 72a Southgate Road N1 3JF London (map)

We will begin with visiting our small cutting garden, a 10 minute walk away from our studio. We will chat about how to grow your own flowers in a small space and the joy of using British blooms. And share our tips on what and when to plant.

Following our garden trip we will return to the studio to demonstrate how to create a centre piece using seasonal flowers and foliage, including some picked from our garden.

We will teach our natural, gardeny style, focusing on colour combinations, shape and texture. You will then make your own arrangement in a low glass vase using sustainable techniques.

Tea, cake and all materials needed will be provided. The vase (and of course the flowers!) will be yours to take home.

We are very excited to be working with Jess Blume this growing season who will be taking on a residency at the TFAS cutting garden and running the 2023 Floral Masterclass workshops. Having worked as a freelance florist for over 5 years for some of London’s most established events florists, as well as spending several years working on flower and veg farms led by regenerative and biodynamic practices, Jess set up her own business and began growing her own flowers in 2019. Now, growing flowers is as intrinsic to her floristry as the floristry itself, so that all her designs include stems that are completely unique and that you’re unlikely to find at the flower market. Her approach encourages a slower, more considered style of floristry, celebrating the beauty of a single stem just as much as that of a dutch-inspired masterpiece. She hopes to bring a season of unique floral treasures to the garden that will uplift the spirits of all those who visit and use the flowers she grows.
