3 Day Intensive Career Course

  • The Flower Appreciation Society BE Studios, 72a Southgate Road N1 3JF London (map)

On this three day intensive course you will learn the essential skills needed to start your floristry career. Whether you're just starting out or you've been a florist for some time but want to refresh your technique and learn a new approach, this is the perfect course for you.

DAY 1 - 10-4pm

We will begin with a chat about how The Flower Appreciation Society started and give you lots of tips and advice on running your own business. We will show you how to select the best blooms, choose lovely colour combinations and create shapes all in The Flower Appreciation Society style. We will discuss where to source your flowers, buying British and growing your own.

Next we will also show you how to condition and prepare your stems and then we will teach how to make bridal accessories including a fresh flower head dress, buttonhole and a hair comb.

After lunch we will demonstrate how to make a beautiful hand tied bouquet in our wild, natural, gardeny style. Then it's your turn to have a go.

DAY 2 - 7-1pm

We will begin this day with a trip to New Covent Garden Flower Market where we will introduce you to a range of different traders including the foliage specialists, the sundries stall and our preferred flower sellers.

When we return to the studio we will concentrate on table flowers. We will demonstrate how to arrange in a selection of different vases which work perfectly for wedding tablescapes (using our large collection of old and new vessels in all different shapes and sizes). We will discuss where you can source your vases and what shapes work best for different table set up's. As a group we will then dress and style a wedding table.

DAY 3 - 10-4pm

On the final day we will demonstrate and then guide you through your own urn arrangement using chicken wire for structure. With a selection of beautiful flowers and foliage we will teach you how to create a loose and natural shape.

In the afternoon, as a group, we will make a large installation piece.

An essential part of being a florist is learning how to capture great images of your work. This is something we will cover over the course of the workshop giving you lots of advice as to how you can achieve this. We encourage you to bring your own camera or a smart phone to document your work. We will also take pictures throughout the workshop which we will share with you.

Tea, coffee and plenty of biscuits will be provided throughout the day as well as all the materials and flowers that you will need.

We offer a split payment option for this workshop. We require 50% to secure your booking and the remaining 50% one month before the workshop. If you would like to pay this way please email:
